The Rotunda

A theatre auditorium in the park. Drama, education and art — and every seat in the house already yours.

How you take part

Three ways in, and none of them is a queue.

A production needs far more people than the ones under the lights. Pick the position that suits you this season — and move whenever you're ready.

Front of house

Position one

Come and be in the room. Watch, help, hand out programs, work the door.

  • Box office and ticketing
  • Ushering and welcome
  • Interval kitchen
  • Relaxed performances with the lights half up

On stage

Position two

Ensemble work first, lines later, leads when you want them. Nobody is cut.

  • Weekly ensemble and voice
  • Devised and scripted work
  • Movement and stagecraft
  • Reading a part with support

Backstage

Position three

The trades of the theatre. Real crew roles, taught properly, logged as experience.

  • Lighting and sound desk
  • Set build and paint
  • Props, costume and wardrobe
  • Stage management and call

Backstage roles connect to ParkSyde's employment pathways work — hours, supervision and a reference at the end of them.

What the room produces

One auditorium, three jobs.

Drama

Weekly ensemble for young people and adults, a school-holiday intensive, and two staged works a year. Devised pieces built from local material, so the writing belongs to the people saying it.

Education

Daytime matinees and workshops for home educators and schools, mapped to the Australian Curriculum v9.0 drama strands. Ramp, core and ladder tasks so one session can hold a whole mixed group.

Art

Set, poster, projection and program design. Digital art and print work made for a real opening night with a real deadline — then kept, catalogued and exhibited in the foyer.
