Employment pathways — the park

Inside the Employment pathways shop at ParkSyde, drawn in the park’s own low, warm dawn light. A still pool of light lies at the centre of the room, holding the dawn. Nine trees stand spread around it, each mirrored faintly on the floor beneath it, and two lamps on posts flank a footpath of light leading in. Near the pool: a rail of clothes, bunched up one end, a table, two chairs, angled across the table between them, a jacket over the back of the one drawn up, a desk with its screen lit — nobody is behind anything, and nothing stands between them and you. Spread out across the room, each on its own post, are six brass push buttons. Their labels, floating over them, read: What it costs; What it is; Who this is for; The pace; Ask for a time; Reach a person. Pressing one walks you over and the shop tells you that one thing.

What it is

Confidence, skills and a supported path toward work — tailored to where you are and where you'd like to get to, and walked with you at your own pace by people who back you.

Nobody should have to buy an interview shirt to get an interview.

Support here is paired with genuine work, not simulated activity.

There is a program running this term. It is called Build. Practice. Launch. It runs Monday 6 October to Friday 11 December 2026, ten weeks, one to one the whole way through, and there are five places in it.

A social worker opens it with an assessment and writes you a report about your own strengths. A community coordinator carries the week to week — the résumé, the real shifts, the applications, the phone calls made sitting beside you. A counsellor teaches an hour a week on what happens to an application before a person reads it.

ParkSyde is not a registered training organisation and this issues no qualification. The work of it is a résumé built line by line, real hours on a real crew, and applications lodged with somebody sitting beside you.

How it is paid for: From an NDIS plan. A self-managed plan can pay ParkSyde, and so can a plan manager. A plan the NDIA manages cannot, because ParkSyde is not a registered provider. That is a rule about invoicing rather than a judgement about you, and it is worth knowing before you ring rather than after.

Who this is for

You do not need a plan, a tidy story, or a reason that sounds good out loud. Turning up without one of those is not a worse way to begin, and a long gap on a résumé is not a thing you have to explain before anyone will talk to you.
